Experience the unique charm of Molise at the 9th edition of Alice Pasquini‘s street art festival, taking place in Civitacampomarano from June 14th to 16th.
I’m thrilled to be back in Civitacampomarano, a hidden gem tucked away in Molise, Italy’s off-the-beaten-path region, serving once again as the social media manager for the fabulous CVTà Street Fest—one of the top street art festivals in Europe!
If you’re new around here, let me fill you in on CVTà Street Fest. “Cvtà” is how the locals refer to Civitacampomarano, a quaint village with just 300 souls, struggling against the tide of depopulation. Since 2016, the world-renowned street artist Alice Pasquini, whose roots trace back to this village, has been orchestrating this spectacular festival. Her goal? To revive the ancient, cobbled streets of Civitacampomarano with street art. Held in early June, the festival attracts thousands and the art tours it inspires breathe life into Civitacampomarano throughout the year.
Explore Alice Pasquini’s outstanding curatorship in this article about the CVTà Street Fest, where I highlight her exceptional skill in selecting artists whose murals blend seamlessly into the environment of Civitacampomarano. These artworks feel so native to the village that they appear to have always been part of its landscape. This article is both an exploration of CVTà Street Fest’s values and a declaration of my love for the festival I’m proud to be part of.
Additionally, delve into my experiences behind the scenes as the festival’s social media manager in this other article. You’ll find personal anecdotes and insights into the contributions of street artists like Dan Witz, Hera, Ellena Lourens, and Helen Bur for the 8th edition of the festival.
Moreover, for a deeper dive into the evolution of street art, check out my exclusive interview with Dan Witz. As an early influencer in the New York street art scene, predating legends like Keith Haring and Basquiat, Dan Witz shares insights into his unique projects for CVTà Street Fest and his broader artistic journey.
CVTà Street Fest 2024: Join Us in Civitacampomarano, June 14th – 16th
What’s exciting about this year’s lineup for the 9th edition of CVTà Street Fest? We’re thrilled to welcome an outstanding group of street artists to Civitacampomarano: SNIK, STRØK, OCTAVI SERRA, and TAXIS. Let me introduce each one, so you can share in my excitement for what promises to be an unforgettable festival.
SNIK (UK) @ CVTà Street Fest 2024
The art of the British duo SNIK skillfully combines the technique of multi-layered stencils, strictly hand-cut, with the composition of dreamy portraits, full of complexity and intricate details. Elements such as hair blowing in the wind and fabrics in motion – details that generally prove particularly challenging to reproduce with stencils – are rendered with great mastery by Nick and Laura, through their dedication to the craft technique.
This method not only showcases their technical competence and attention to detail but also demonstrates their desire to preserve authenticity in the art of stenciling, leading to the creation of significant visual works that captivate the gaze and touch the heart with the use of “simple” sheets of paper.
Octavi Serra (ES) @ CVTà Street Fest 2024
Despite his young age, Octavi Serra has been working in the field of urban art, design, and photography for many years, offering, through his artworks, an intriguing interpretation of modern society. Through images and conceptual installations, the Catalan artist ironically depicts the problems, frustrations, and contradictions of contemporary life, touching on themes such as media, the relationship with technology, and the environment.
His approach to urban art is conceptual, resulting in artistic installations that may be ephemeral, but the reflections they inspire in the viewer through the subversion of the ordinary – these, on the other hand, leave a lasting impression.
Strøk (NO) @ CVTà Street Fest 2024
Anders Gjennestad, who signs his street works as Strøk, is a Norwegian artist renowned for his surreal and poetic creations: figures walking on buildings around the world, casting long and profound shadows. His artistic process begins with his own photographs, which he transforms into complex multi-layered stencils. With these, he crafts images of striking photorealistic and three-dimensional impact, so vivid they seem almost tangible.
His works, capable of seizing our distracted gaze and compelling us to look more closely, open doors to alternative worlds where the laws of gravity and the flow of time appear suspended. Through these windows into the unusual, Strøk offers us the chance to explore other realities, both physical and metaphysical, inviting us to ponder the endless possibilities of existence.
Taxis (GR) @ CVTà Street Fest 2024
After establishing himself in publishing illustration and the comic book world, Dimitris Trimintzios, better known as Taxis, began to showcase his works on the streets in the early 2000s. He spread handmade posters marked by a style reminiscent of etching. Gradually, he adapted this visual language to murals, developing an unmistakable signature that leverages the distinctive etching lines for a personal stylistic mark.
These murals speak directly to the constant challenge we face every day, pushed by society to overcome our limits. Through his art, Taxis prompts us towards an internal dialogue that becomes richer or deeper following the flow of our individual interpretations.
