Stories that stay untold in the streets

You are in the right place if you want to learn the language that is spoken on the walls of your city, on the train you take to get to work in the morning, and in the urban fabric you are a part of and move through.

Every month, on the 1st, I send out an editorial that looks at how graffiti and street art are reshaping our cities. These essays go beyond cataloguing artworks: they dig into the questions behind them: gentrification, disneyfication, copyright battles, documentation, the impact of the digital age, and more.

Too often, street art is presented as pure spectacle, stripped of its conflicts and contradictions. My newsletter does the opposite. It keeps those tensions visible and asks what is really at stake: Who owns the city? Who gets to speak on its walls? How is dissent transformed when it is turned into branding or lifestyle content?

I see these monthly editorials as a space to resist the sanitization of urban art, to insist that the streets remain political. The city’s walls are not decoration. They are contested ground, and by reading them closely we learn more about the struggles, voices, and dynamics that shape urban life today.
