Welcome to the city I once called home!
Resources
It was 1984 when Dutch national TV broadcasted “Style Wars.” At the time, there were already tags from the early 1980s in Amsterdam, done mostly by hooligans and punks, but nothing related to hip hop. After this pivotal moment and throughout the 90s, Dutch graffiti artists developed a bold, colorful style that was strongly influenced by the wildstyle overseas. The late 90s were also the dawn of the Amsterdam street art scene, pioneered by a multicultural community of artists who weren’t Dutch, but found their home in Amsterdam. Their voice in the streets was true artistic freedom.
