Matera, perhaps more than any other place, is defined by its past. The ancient city, which was once the European Capital of Culture in 2019 and has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. However, if you venture outside Matera’s city center, you can spot some great street art!
