Discover a different side of Berlin through street art, history and urban transformation.
This is not a trip about rushing from one landmark to another, nor about ticking off Berlin’s most famous murals.
Over five days, we’ll use street art as a lens to explore the city’s many layers, from residential neighbourhoods and former industrial areas to alternative cultural spaces, contemporary architecture and districts undergoing rapid transformation. Along the way, we’ll encounter iconic works, hidden corners, artist studios, independent initiatives and places that reveal a side of Berlin often overlooked by visitors.

Help Us Create the Next Street Art Book
This trip is more than an exploration of Berlin’s street art scene. It is also part of the research and documentation process behind our next book in the As Seen on the Streets of… series.
Throughout the journey, Paolo will be photographing the city while I continue gathering stories, observations and insights that will help shape the final publication. By joining this crowdfunding trip, you’ll become part of the process behind the book and support its creation from the very beginning.
As a heartfelt thank-you, we’ll send you a copy once the book is published. 🥰

More Than A Street Art Trip
Each itinerary focuses on a different aspect of the city, but street art remains the common thread throughout the journey. Whether painted on the walls of a residential estate, emerging from a former factory, or transforming an unexpected urban landscape, it will guide our conversations about history, migration, activism, urban change and contemporary culture.
Expect long walks, surprising discoveries, unusual locations and plenty of opportunities to experience Berlin beyond its most familiar narratives. This is a journey for curious travellers who want to understand not only the artworks themselves, but also the communities, spaces and stories that surround them.
Berlin Street Art Trip: The Itineraries
The descriptions below offer a glimpse into each itinerary, but many locations and stories will remain part of the experience itself.
Day 1: Street Art Amidst Local Life
Thursday, August 27 | 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Our first day is dedicated to discovering street art beyond the city’s best-known urban art destinations. We’ll explore residential neighbourhoods where murals have become part of the everyday landscape, woven into the lives of local communities rather than concentrated in dedicated street art districts. As we move across different parts of the city, we’ll uncover stories behind the artworks, wander through a historic cemetery, and visit former industrial sites that have found new life as cultural hubs and contemporary art centres. We’ll end the day with an aperitivo and panoramic views from one of the city’s most beautiful rooftops.
Day 2: The Legacy of East Berlin
Friday, August 28 | 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Our second day explores the many layers of East Berlin, tracing the city’s transformation through its walls, industrial spaces and evolving neighbourhoods. From some of Berlin’s most iconic urban art landmarks to large-scale mural projects in newer residential areas, we’ll discover how street art continues to shape the identity of the former East.
Along the way, we’ll walk through a vast industrial complex reclaimed by graffiti and creative experimentation, enjoy lunch in a hidden spot tucked inside an independent bookshop, and visit artist studios housed within former factory buildings. As the day unfolds, we’ll encounter different expressions of Berlin’s artistic spirit, from its rebellious past to its contemporary creative scene. We’ll end the day immersed in an extraordinary world of light, movement and sound.
Day 3: Berlin’s Street Art Hotspots
Saturday, August 29 | 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM
This itinerary is dedicated to the neighbourhoods that helped build Berlin’s reputation as Europe’s street art capital and continue to shape its urban art scene today. In an area long associated with migration, political activism and alternative culture, we’ll discover how street art became a visual language for generations of artists, activists and residents, leaving its mark on the streets while gradually transforming the neighbourhood itself.
As we wander through streets covered in murals, paste-ups and graffiti, we’ll discuss one of the movement’s central paradoxes: how an artistic practice rooted in rebellion and resistance can become a driver of cultural recognition, tourism and gentrification. Later, we’ll move to another district renowned for its large-scale murals and ever-changing walls, offering the perfect setting to reflect on how street art has evolved from a subcultural practice into a global phenomenon, and on the forms it continues to take across the city today.
We’ll end the day at one of Berlin’s most iconic alternative landmarks, a place that embodies the creative and unconventional spirit that has long defined Berlin, far beyond the world of street art.
Day 4: Street Art in Berlin’s Evolving Neighbourhoods
Sunday, August 30 | 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM
This itinerary explores the parts of Berlin where change is most visible. Moving through neighbourhoods shaped by alternative cultural projects, artist-led initiatives and ongoing urban transformations, we’ll discover how street art both reflects and contributes to the city’s evolving identity.
Along the way, we’ll visit historic squats that played a key role in Berlin’s alternative culture, former industrial spaces repurposed by artists and creative communities, major graffiti jams that attract writers from around the world, and emerging cultural districts where new forms of artistic expression continue to take shape. Through these contrasting spaces, we’ll trace the independent networks, communities and creative forces that continue to influence the development of the city.
We’ll end the day on Berlin’s mysterious island republic, a unique corner of the city that feels surprisingly removed from the urban pace surrounding it.
Day 5: Architecture and Artistic Intervention
Monday, August 31 | 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM
This itinerary focuses on the forces that have shaped contemporary Berlin through architecture, urban planning and large-scale public art. Moving through districts transformed after reunification, we’ll discover how ambitious redevelopment projects, landmark buildings and cultural investments have reshaped the city, creating some of Berlin’s most striking contrasts between past and present.
Throughout the day, we’ll examine the relationship between planned urban transformation and artistic intervention, exploring how public art contributes to the identity of newly imagined urban spaces. Later, we’ll visit a site that offers a unique perspective on Berlin’s contemporary urban art scene. Defined by its remarkable architecture and constantly evolving collection of murals, graffiti and artistic interventions, it provides an extraordinary setting to reflect on the ways artists continue to reinterpret and transform the spaces around them. Its dramatic structures and layered visual landscape make it one of the most compelling environments for photography and urban exploration in the city.
