The Royals were bathing in Ostend since the 19th century, but this seaside resort on the Belgian coastline is even older: it was an ancient fishermen village, which rose to the status of town back in 1265. More recently, Ostend is standing out thanks to an excellent urban art collection, thanks to The Crystal Ship street art festival.
More off-the-beaten path things to see in Ostend:
- Belgian craft beers at Oostende ‘t Koelschip
- Belle Epoque Architecture
- Mu.Zee Museum
- The Oud Kerkhof Cemetery
- Fort Napoleon and the nearby beach
